The Simulation and Vehicle Testing Verification Technique for Autonomous Driving Systems
For development and validation of autonomous driving systems (ADS), ARTC has established a simulation and vehicle testing verification environment. In terms of simulation platforms, ARTC has integrated virtual scenarios and sensor models (PreScan), vehicle dynamic model (CarSim), driver control interfaces, real-time simulating platform with I/O interface for communication with real hardware, and a six degree of freedom motion platform. It is capable of all phase’s simulation for autonomous driving development processes such as MiL, HiL. In terms of vehicle testing verification technique, engineers can verify the effectiveness of autonomous driving function by installing the test devices (steering, brake, and accelerating control devices, RTK DGPS, vehicle performance measuring devices) in the vehicle under test which interact with a soft target and a surrogate vehicle. The test scenarios for ADS basic functions are also being drawn up by ARTC.

This technique can be applied in V&V of passenger or commercial vehicles for advanced driver assistance system and autonomous driving system.
More and more manufactures start to develop ADAS and ADS, but most of them lack of a comprehensive environment to verify the control algorithm. The establishment can assist system suppliers to verify system functions for problem shooting and algorithm improving. Not only can the competitiveness be strengthened, but also the development cycle and testing risk could be reduced.
