In this paper, we propose a concept of cooperative vehicular surrounding sensing (CVSS)
system, which aims to enhance not only the accuracy and reliability of vehicular positioning
system but also the sensing range of vehicular sensors. Due to outages and multi-path
appearance of global positioning system (GPS) signals frequently occur in some scenarios, it
is not always reliable for some particular applications. On the other hand, conventionally, in
order to obtain more environment information around the vehicle, it uses different sensors to
sense different environment information. However, there are some issues regarding the limit
and blocking of sensing range that need to be solved. In order to improve above mentioned
disadvantages, we incorporate several interesting ideas with traditional architecture. More
specifically, the CVSS system is implemented via telematics and sensing technology, it can
help a vehicle obtain more accurate and reliable vehicular positioning information and wider
surrounding environment information.
